Real jobs, real people, real lives

TALKING JOBS has been produced to help widen young people's thinking about the world of work. Aligned with both 2009 white papers on social mobility, the key driver is in understanding that many young people lack diverse influences beyond their immediate community.

This resource uses video interviews from the workplace with all contributors being asked the same set of questions about their working lives, their experience of school, their family backgrounds and attitudes to education at home to form an interactive snapshot of UK society for young people to explore. Click here to see the interviewees.

  • Forty in-depth video interviews - from welder to weather forecaster
  • Learning materials written to fit the National Framework for CEG teaching
  • A simple web-based interface designed to encourage exploration
  • Suitable for planned teaching and learning, independent study and homework
  • Site now features an 'Option Choices' lesson plan for Year 9
  • Login details now printed on all lesson plans/group work documents

February 2010 Update: TALKING JOBS is currently being redeveloped with major changes to the platform including independent sessions for students and jobseekers and more, all scheduled to go live later this month. Please sign-up to the mailing list if you would like to be alerted when these changes come into effect.

Launched in April 2008 TALKING JOBS is independently funded by the producer with proceeds currently being reinvested in new site developments. While originally designed for classroom use in secondary schools this versatile resource has also been licensed by Connexions Centres and Adult Education Centres across the country.

TALKING JOBS is supported by The East Sussex Enterprise Hub a SEEDA funded initiative.
